The Process

    How a Therapy Intensive Works

Before you commit to a therapy intensive, you deserve to know exactly what it involves.

    What Is a Therapy Intensive?

A therapy intensive is a focused period—typically one to three days—dedicated solely to deep therapeutic work. Unlike weekly therapy, intensives condense months of progress into a short, immersive experience, allowing space for genuine emotional release and integration.

    At The Garden, intensives include:

    • One-on-one or family-based sessions with trauma-informed clinicians
    • Psychodrama and experiential methods that help you access emotion through movement and roleplay
    • Integration and aftercare planning to support lasting change

You're not starting over—you're going deeper. An intensive helps you move from insight into real, embodied transformation.

What Happens in a Therapy Intensive?

Every intensive follows a three-part process that balances safety, depth, and integration.

    1

    Preparation & Intention Setting

Before your intensive begins, we guide you through a thoughtful preparation process. This includes a pre-consult call, intake paperwork, and identifying key goals for your therapeutic focus. You'll receive a personalized preparation packet and we coordinate with your current therapist to ensure continuity of care.

    2

    Immersive Therapy Days

Each day blends experiential work with reflection and regulation. Modalities include psychodrama, family systems work, somatic grounding, and expressive processes that engage both body and mind.

This is where transformation happens—moving from insight to embodied change.

    3

    Integration & Aftercare

The work doesn't end when the intensive does. We close with reflective discussions to help translate insights into daily life, and provide written summaries for both you and your therapist. Optional coaching or follow-up sessions are available to support your continued growth.

Each phase is designed with trauma-informed pacing, ensuring emotional safety while creating room for authentic change.

How Long Is a Therapy Intensive?

Most clients choose a one, two, or three day format, depending on goals and readiness.

    1 Day

Ideal for focused issues, maintenance, or pre/post-treatment support

    2 Day

Allows for significant depth with integration time built in

    3 Day

Best for family or trauma work requiring layered exploration

Duration is determined collaboratively during your consult with our clinical team. We'll help you choose a format that fits your needs and emotional capacity.

    Preparing for Your Intensive

Feeling prepared helps you get the most from your experience.

What to bring and how to prepare:

    • Complete your intake forms and goals worksheet
    • Get rest and stay hydrated before arrival
    • Bring comfortable clothing and a personal journal
    • Arrange post-intensive support (therapist check-in or support person)
    • Arrive with curiosity—there's no "perfect way" to do this work

Our team will guide you every step of the way. You don't have to figure anything out alone.

    Emotional Safety & Aftercare

Safety is our foundation—before, during, and after every intensive.

    Trauma-Informed Care

Our clinicians follow trauma-informed principles of choice, pacing, and collaboration, ensuring the process is never overwhelming or retraumatizing.

    Aftercare Includes

Post-intensive coaching or integration sessions, referral coordination with your home therapist or program, and check-ins at 1 and 4 weeks post-intensive to ensure continued progress.

We care as much about how you leave as how you arrive.
